SELICHOT SERVICE - New this year, August 28, 9:30pm This year, for the first time, Kehilat Shalom will host Selichot services (online) on Saturday night, August 28 at 9:30pm. From the Jewish Virtual Library: “Selichot are special prayers for forgiveness, said… during the period [leading up to the New Year]. At the Selichot service, worshipers begin to examine their deeds of the past year, seeking forgiveness from G-d and promising to improve their behavior in the New Year. The prayers are specifically tailored to help worshipers direct their hearts and minds to the process of teshuvah (Hebrew for repentance).” The Selichot service, traditionally held on Saturday night a week before Rosh Hashana, offers a musical prelude and themes related to the upcoming High Holidays.
