High Holidays
2020/5781 - starting Sept. 18

Kehilat Shalom Calgary wishes to advise its members, and the Jewish community of Calgary, that it intends to hold this year’s High Holiday services in-person. This decision to come together physically for the High Holidays was made after careful consideration by the Kehilat Shalom Board of Directors. The congregation is currently preparing plans to conduct its services in such a manner as to prevent potential transmission of COVID-19.
We shall adhere to best practices and reasonable precautions to make such services feasible. This may entail specific congregational requirements (e.g., related to physical distanacing and use of facemasks or shields), as well as changes to the structure, duration, and location of services. All such considerations are subject to government regulations and public health measures. We will continue to keep you apprised of our High Holiday service plans, and all related developments.

For more information about services this year or membership, please contact info@kscalgary.org.

*Special Shabbat Service in-person
July 25, 2020 – 10:00 am
Calgary JCC*

Let’s say “Shehecheyanu” to mark our first service together back at the JCC! We are joining together specially on Saturday, July 25 for Shabbat morning services starting at 10am (rather than our usual 9:30). Services will be held in the JCC Gymnasium – not the Veterans’ Lounge – in order to allow for safe, adequate physical distancing. While we are not yet returning to weekly Shabbat service, the July 25 Shabbat will enable us to see one another, and plan ahead for High Holidays.
▪Facemask-wearing is required. If you do not have your own, we will supply you with one. If you have substantial difficulty wearing a facemask, then please bring a face-shield (a limited number will be made available).
▪As per JCC requirements, each attendee will have their name checked off and have their temperature taken upon entrance. While service starts at 10am, please arrive early to allow for extra time for entry. Note that the JCC water fountains are not in service.
▪To minimize exposure, services will be shorter than usual (planned duration is 1hr. 40 minutes), and no Kiddush will be held.
▪RSVP is required. Please email info@kscalgary.org with your name(s) and phone number for all attendees, and many will be in your party.

  • that not only respects but thrives on the diverse backgrounds and traditions of its worshipers;
  • of individuals that join together for worship, study and in Mitzvot;
  • that provides a sense of comfort and community;
